Things to do:
Driving Tour
Probably the most popular activity in the highlands. Take a trip
to Skye and see the magnificent Cuillin mountains or a circular
drive around Loch Ness. Fort William and the west coast of Scotland
is within reach and those who are really keen behind the wheel can
make the return journey to John O'Groats in a day. Wherever you
drive you will be assured of breathtaking views of some tremendous
scenery, no other area in Britain comes close. |
|
Walking/Cycling
The area is walking country beyond compare. Whether an easy country
ramble or a more adventurous tramp up a mountain, you will be spoilt
for choice.
The roads locally are very quiet and are suitable for cycling so
don't forget your bike if you wish to sample some fine countryside
by pedal power. Mountain biking is also very popular in the
area and some very challenging routes are available.
We are happy to advise on suitable routes that match your ambition. |
Historic Sites
Historic battlefields and ancient castles. Scottish heritage is
deeply rooted in the Highlands. Culloden is one of the many battlefields
in Scotland and is only a short drive away. Many castles are open
to the public and those that aren't are still worth the trip for
the photo opportunity. |
|
Towns & Villages
Many picturesque villages are situated near Dores and of course
the lovely town of Inverness is always worth a visit. |
Climbing/Mountaineering
The cottage is an ideal base for the West Coast, Torridon and Cairngorm.
Access to these areas requires a drive but being well placed means
that you have the pick of the routes.
We are happy to advise on climbs and Smiler, your host, is an international
mountain guide.
If you are interested, Smiler runs climbing and mountaineering
courses throughout the year. See his web site at www.smilercuthbertson.co.uk
for further details. There is also an impressive indoor climbing
wall in the Inverness sports centre. |
